Today my reading is from Divine Science Daily Studies volume II, and this one is by Elisabeth S. Lamb.
“The ear that hears, the eye that sees, the Lord made them both.” Proverbs 20:12
Our lives are enriched if we learn to listen creatively, no less than when we learn to see in a new and creative way. Because there is so much sound in our world, we tend to take it for granted.
A musician friend of mine will not listen to music she loves unless she can sit quietly concentrating on it. We all can find joy in music if we really listen, absorbing, putting mind and spirit into it. Our ears need training in “hearing” pure sound. We clog the pathways to the brain and the heart with background sound; music or bird song or the ocean’s murmur can hardly be comprehended.
“A note in music gains significance from the silences on either side,” wrote Anne Lindbergh in Gift from the Sea. This is true of our lives. We need to hear silence from time to time, for it is from the silences that the creative music of our lives issues. It is in the deep inner silence of our being that we receive spiritual harmony. As we learn to listen inwardly there is new beauty in our lives.
Affirm: I listen creatively for the sounds and silences of this day.”
Meditation
We shall now move into a meditation on “Silence” Let us turn inward to our holy temple, breathe deeply and slowly as we quiet our thoughts and listen. Take the following words within for yourself:
In the deep silence of the stillness of seeming nothingness Divine Infinite Spirit - God created all that is. Out of this creative silence came all life and form that is both invisible and visible. I being a creative expression of God, I too bring forth from the stillness of silence a sense of Oneness with the Divine. In this Oneness I feel, I hear, I see the greatest beauty that is truly always here within and all around me. I am truly whole, good, creative, intelligent and wise, powerful and loving.
In the depths of my soul I feel alive in God. (Repeat)
The silence exists between notes of music, between thoughts and words, and between every heartbeat. Throughout all of creation there are the pauses; a time to sleep, work, eat and play; a time for reflection, prayer, meditation and appreciation; a time for giving and receiving; a time for speaking and a time for listening. I now listen and silently be present for the presence of God. (Silence)
We give thanks for these moments in silence. We are grateful for this truth and in our expanded awareness of At-one-ment. Thank you, Divine Presence of God. So it is. Amen.
