God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love… – 2 Timothy 1:7

We live in a world of fear.

Every day we read of atrocities being perpetrated somewhere in the world, often close to home. The perpetrators of these heinous deeds are usually presented to us as some sort of evil ogres or psychopaths – which they might well be, but they are also human just like you and me.

Divine Love is unconditional. Our challenge is to love unconditionally. “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you,” was the command given by Jesus. (Luke 6:27-28)

When I read of young people being attracted to movements such as ISIS because they are told that they will be helping the persecuted and the poor, then I begin to see the Christ Conscious in them, the bright light of the Divine that shines out into the world and is sometimes dimmed by fear. Without condoning their actions, I see that they are good people, God’s people and I can love them.

If we keep ourselves enclosed in boxes of fear, we cannot love. We are trapped in fear: fear of others, fear of love, fear to love.

I am grateful for God’s gift of the power to love with a love that banishes fear. As the ancient Hindu scripture, the Isa Upanishad states, “Who sees all beings in his own Self, and his own Self in all beings loses all fear.”

Meditation:

Now I invite you to go within for a short time of meditation, letting go of worries or concerns for this time, getting comfortable, closing your eyes with your inner gaze raised to the center of the forehead, turning your attention to your breath, gently noticing the in-breath and the out-breath… feeling the coolness of the in-breath and the warmth of the out-breath… allowing the breath to sink down into the belly with each in-breath… expanding the belly with each in-breath and contracting the belly with each out-breath… coming into the present moment through the breath now, completely awake and aware…

I am a Divine expression of Love, made in the image and likeness of God.

I live and move and have my being in God.

I am a Divine expression of Love.

All beings are Divine expressions of Love.

All beings are made in the image and likeness of God.

I release all fear. I live in a friendly universe of Divine beings.

The manifest universe is God’s manifestation of Love.

The sun shining down to warm the earth is God’s expression of Love.

The dark clouds sending rain to nourish the earth are God’s expression of Love.

The birds singing joyful songs in the trees are God’s expression of Love.

The flowers blooming brightly in the spring are God’s expression of Love.

The breeze that ruffles my hair is God’s expression of Love.

The smile on the face of a person passing by is God’s expression of Love.

The warm hugs from family and friends are God’s expression of Love.

I see the Divine in all beings, all manifestations of God’s Love.

I share my Divine Love with all, sharing in the delight of life.

I am grateful to live in a friendly universe of Divine beings.

I am grateful for this Divine life of God’s Love.

We move into one minute of silence now, feeling Divinely loved…

Now that we have rested in the silence, I invite you to bring your awareness back to the body, allowing the experience of Divine Love to remain with you. Remember that you are an expression of Divine Love. Carry that with you in your heart and share your Love with the world.
