Conscious Healing by Rev. Christine Emmerling DD 9/15/2024

This week I’m talking about the principles of conscious healing. As I’ve said before we are always creating our experiences by our beliefs, thoughts, actions and mostly we do this unconsciously. Actually, actions follow our thoughts, and thoughts follow our beliefs. So we start with our beliefs. Let us ask our self: What is our belief about health? Can our health come and go? Do we have to earn our health? Is our health based on outside circumstances; the food we eat, the weather, or its going around?

In Divine Science we start with the very premise of wholeness — wholeness is based on the principle of Oneness, the Omnipresence of God as everywhere present. Every illness or disharmony of health is experienced through a belief in two powers — good and bad — life and death -- health and sickness. The root of which is a belief, or a sense in being separated from our true source -- God.

God is one not two, and therefore whole. Being at-one with this Divine Presence of God means we are whole and complete - health is ours by our Divine inheritance.

We can say that all that is discordant in our lives is caused from our own sense of separation from the presence of God. Regardless of the condition it is the result from the same causing factor. By having a belief in duality, two powers, in separation, we have turned our mind away from Oneness.

For example: We are either facing the sun with all its glorious light, or we have turned our back on the sun and we see shadows of darkness. Looking through a glass darkly we see and experience a distorted reality through our own shadows. Every thought that we have that is not based in Truth is a shadow in our consciousness, and therefore we experience separation and its many effects. Remember this: regardless of our beliefs and experiences our True nature being of God never changes.

Thinking and speaking words of doubt, fear, resentment, criticism, guilt, anger or shame create a split in mind from the Truth. And therefore from our good, and our natural state of health. For every word thought or spoken charged with feeling has the power to create an illusion, a false sense, an appearance. We then experience the falsity as real. We can even get others to agree with us.

When we talk about an illness or pain with someone, we reinforce it. The more we talk about it, and they sympathetically agree with us, or commensurate their own aches and pains, soon we feel even worse than before. Now we are justified, and what could have been released in a few hours may now stay around for days or weeks. Or until we are ready to let go of it or believe we can.

A healing consciousness is a realization of perfect health. A realization of God as our perfect health. Do we ever think of God being sick? How about a sick atom? Yet we state that we are one with God and that God is in us. Or that we are made of atoms, every cell millions of atoms. When thinking of the power of an atom, I think of an atom bomb, like a chain reactor we are constantly in a state of renewing. So how can we ever be tired or sick? I am life and more life.

I remember thinking about how atoms never die but just change forms; as simple as water to ice, to steam, and water again. Its true essence never changes, but only the outer form. Our true essence, the truth of our being is God. Therefore we are like God; wholeness is our natural state — in truth we can never not be perfectly whole. If we believe otherwise, then we will experience according to our belief system until we awaken to a realization of wholeness.

Conscious healing is not a physical process but a spiritual realization of a state of wholeness. When we are experiencing other than wholeness, then we say, “we are not our self.” If we are not our self, then who are we? We have temporarily left the truth and are experiencing shadows of our self. Jesus the Christ said, “That its not what you put in your mouth that defiles you, but what comes out.” I understand this to mean that its not about ones food intake, but about ones beliefs, thoughts and words spoken that defiles oneself.

There can be so much judgement around foods -- if we listen to doctors through the ages, what has been good for you at one time is bad at another -- depending upon their school of thought. Modern science of the early 50's called whole wheat bread bad for you because scientists and doctors believed that it could cause stomach ulcers, and thus promoted processed white bread as being healthier. Then butter was called bad for our health, and were told to use margarine instead. Today we know this isn’t true.

I like to take things back to their source. All food is made of atoms. Is one atom better than the other? Atoms and food are of God and therefore Good. The very breath we breathe, this invisible substance, is the vital life force of God and energizes our bodies. Air has the highest vital energy. Next comes water and lowest is food. Think about it, we can only live a few minutes without air, and a few days without water, and a few weeks without food.

I have heard that what we are thinking of while eating is what we are really digesting — think on that one. Where are our thoughts? What are the quality of our thoughts? Pay attention to our daily thoughts. Do they support wholeness, and a healthy well being; physical, mental, emotional?

Christ Jesus also said to not criticize. When criticizing we are focused on separation and what is not Truth. We end up experiencing what we criticize because we identify or acknowledged its existence. And, give error power by continuing to focus our thoughts upon the error rather than on Truth.

These three: what we believe, thoughts we entertain, and focused energy; are what basically create our experiences. Health vs non health. First identify our erroneous beliefs and exchange for that which is grounded in Truth. Ask such questions as, “Where did I get that one from, is it mine, inherited, or from popular belief?” “How does it serve me today?” “Does it feel true for me?” In prayer ask for the realization of what is true. Be persistent until an answer comes and is realized as part of our being.

Next, pay attention to our thought process so that it becomes aligned with what we believe. Regardless of the appearance reported through our physical senses, let us discern with the eye of Spirit, the single eye, and our bodies shall be full of light. Always use life affirming statements such as, “My life is the Substance and activity of God, therefore perfect.” “I Am created in God’s image and likeness: whole, perfect and complete.” “God is my very life.” “I Am eternally alive in God.”

Finally: Be watchful of our actions. Actions follow repeated thoughts. If our thoughts are in alignment with truth, then our actions will follow in kind. But, if still experiencing otherwise, then dig deeper for fear based beliefs and thoughts. Our actions are like a report card on how well we are doing on the inside.

Another way, is to fake it til we make it. That is by consciously choosing our actions, and eventually our thoughts and beliefs will become aligned. Taking that giant leap in faith will exercise and strengthen our belief in a God that is within us right here and now as a living presence. An affirmation I like to use is: “I am God’s feet, hands, eyes, and mouth.”

I recommended to inventory daily how well we did by asking the following: Was I true to my integrity? Did I fall into fear? Did I get angry? Did I let my negative thoughts control me? Did I help someone today? Or did I say a kind word? Be honest. Then follow-up with forgiveness, affirmations and prayer treatments. Think of it as reclaiming energy. power, and light. Choosing separation or oneness; to stand in shadows or in the full light of the sun as a Christ being.

Healing Prayer Treatment

Get comfortable, relax, and turn inward. We turn our focus on God and what we know to be true, and internalize for our own self.

I acknowledge the presence of God that is everywhere present, right here and now, God is ever present. God is all there is. I am a living expression of God. I am whole, I am love, I am alive in Spirit and Spirit is alive in me. I have faith! I have unshakable faith in the activity of the Divine Presence as the Truth I am. God is life. Divine life is pure, eternal, perfect, vibrant. I am one with God, and so I am one with that perfect life that God is. I am the perfect manifestation of God-Life. I rejoice in the unfailing activity of the Life-Principle expressing as my very life.

I give no power to the appearances of the world. Therefore, conditions, circumstances or things are powerless by nature. They are temporary, and didn’t come to stay, but to quickly pass. All cause is from within. The pure love of God within me is the power that unveils and reveals the light of God’s wholeness. I know that the perfection that is now in me comes into visibility. I am renewed and whole. God-Life is manifesting and functioning perfectly in and through me. I am radiant with the strength, vitality and love of Infinite Spirit.

I release this prayer knowing it is already fulfilled in the mind of God, and is manifested in the here and now. I give joyous thanks to this truth and light of God. So it is. Amen!
